Both the AT-5000 and the AT-5500 utilize satellite communication, as opposed to the cellular network. This provides one-way communication in remote areas. The AT-5500 device is less expensive than the AT-5000 but the monthly application access fee and communication costs are the same. The AT-5000 is NEMA 4x IP68, RoHS Compliant and SAEJ1455 MIL STD 810 rated and has 4 AA lithium-ion batteries which extends the maximum battery life to 5-7 years. The AT-5000 is not IF68 rated, has fewer batteries and a max operating life of 2-3 years.
